The History Terry Pratchett was 17 the day he became a journalist in Buckinghamshire,
England. Fifteen years and two locations later,
he joined the Central Electricity Board, Western Division.
He came on as their press manager. It was here that he began to write his
award-winning series Discworld, to escape the tedium of his job.
While he was at the Board, he wrote the first 4 Discworld books:
The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Equal Rites, and Mort. By 1987,
he realized that he did not have to work at the board to support himself
and his family. He quit his boring job and became a full-time novelist.
